Prince Armory

Custom Creations

Hey gang! I'm perhaps a little late on this notice but there are still 7  full weekends left to come see my shop at the Texas Renaissance Festival.  I've worked hard in getting ready for the second year out there so I hope you'll consider swinging by to say hello!
Texas Renaissance Festival Shop 211 by Azmal
Want a little tour of the shop?  Well hop on to Facebook for a picture walk-through of opening weekend.  2013 TRF Album We've got a lot of goodies and eye-candy in store!

I have a few Signature Level Prince Armory items on display, some even for sale which is rare and of course the shop is filled to the brim with stock item products from my secondary business Imperial Armories www.ImperialArmories.com as well as items from other talented collaborating artisans.

Finding the shop is easy, just keep right at the entrance and we will be just a handful of shops down on the left across from the Globe Stage and next to the big blue dragon.  Look for the 'Black Castle' as it's been dubbed.

Note: If you're trying to catch me out there I can be rather elusive.  I will miss this weekend but I will be back the 26th and 27th for All Hallows Eve

Find more info about the Texas Renaissance Festival by visiting their website at www.texrenfest.com

Cheers!

Help Wanted for Craft and Business

Help Wanted

Help Wanted for Craft and Business

(Please share if you know someone who might fit this role)

Looking for full time help to assist in creations of unique leather and armor works as well as a hand in business matters.  Ideally I am looking for someone experienced with leatherwork and I can afford full time wages for adequate work.  However, I am also willing to entertain an old fashioned apprenticeship for those not yet of a high skill but are eager to learn with growing wages in relation to increased productivity. In either scenario, extra wages may also be earned from piece work and assuming additional duties.  I am able to offer room and board as part of the arrangement.

The job description will have many aspects - everything from creating leather armor suits, to making buckles, to assisting with promotion, sales, and attending large events like ComiCon, DragonCon, The Texas Renaissance Festival and more in the future.  However, let it be known I do not expect proficiency or activity in all areas - I will seek to play upon individual strengths and areas of interest.  The fundamental spirit of the job is of fine craftsmanship and advancement of business ambitions in the way of Prince Armory which takes in custom works of all sorts, but usually in the way of armor and costumes, and Imperial Armories to vend at conventions and festivals which is focused more on higher volume high quality stock items in the fantasy genre, again often in the costume and armor type of product for now. www.PrinceArmory.com and www.ImperialArmories.com

Ideally, you should be creative, passionate about quality and art, and have an interest in pursuing a career in the arts, crafts, business in general, or conventions or festival scenes.

Please contact me directly at Samuel@PrinceArmory.com if you are interested.  Tell me about yourself, your qualifications, where you are at skill-wise and what you can bring to the table, and why you would like to work with me.    And please feel free to ask any questions.

I'm currently in Dublin TX for the time being and as such need someone able to commute or relocate.  Again, room and board is on the table for discussion for those needing to relocate.

January Update

Journal Entry: Sat Jan 19, 2013, 11:31 PM
January Updates

and more to come

Hello all, its been a while since I've updated or been active much at all online in general.  There has been a lot going on since my last update, not the least of which was procuring and overhauling an incredible shop at the Texas Renaissance Festival.   And I've got many interesting projects around the corner.  I've actually got way too many half finished so at the moment I'm trying to just focus on those older projects to catch up and get them knocked out.

I'm still moving toward expanding but I'm doing it a bit backwards by starting with the largest event (TRF) and once I'm financially caught up on that I'll definitely be pushing into Dragon Con and ComicCons but I will plant the seed here that if anyone is already traveling to festivals, cons, and various shows and would like to vend my wares from Imperial Armories (more designs coming as soon as I'm caught up with commissions) (SO MUCH CATCHING UP TO DO! lol)  anyway, anyone already in the circuits be it festivals or conventions I'm looking to expand my network and work with many people.

And vice versa; I have some close artisans working with me for TRF also selling some of their works as well and that will likely carry over to additional events so just contact me to talk shop if you have some relevant crafts.  I'm looking to expand a lot over the coming years so hopefully there will be many opportunities to go around.

I'll be posting about this following topic more in depth as things become more set in stone on my end but just as an early heads up for anyone wanting to work with me long term - I'll be looking for a new hired hand (or two) to help me with the craft and general business matters.  This wont be until around April but if you're interested in discussing what this entails just toss me an email to Samuel@PrinceArmory.com

I've really got to flesh out a road map so others can see what I'm planning - so far I don't think even the people I've worked closely with really understand what I'm going for in the end.

Just as a teaser here are a few projects you'll be seeing the first half of this year:
Medieval Aquaman
Drow Armor
Female Barbarian (matched to the previous barbarian set)
WoW Dark Elf armor (Windrunner)
full Vash the Stampede leather ensemble
Conan Sword and accessories (finally)
Cthulhu Helmet and Gauntlets
Tyrial from Diablo III
Elaborate baldric and metal work
Helmet from a League of Legends character
Corset that will be part of a larger project
and many others I'll update about a bit later.

I've got a scattering of projects over the next few years with folks on longer term payment plans and I'll be working to pay off the debt for the TRF shop as well as trying to get enough funds to relocate (most likely it will be either to Houston or LA) and of course a ton of projects to finish this year so I'm going to be fairly occupied.

I am still accepting commissions but expect a good wait.   Inquire early if you have an event deadline.  I'm pulling long hours so just toss me an email at Samuel@PrinceArmory.com and I'll see if I can meet it.

More commission info can be found at the Prince Armory website www.princearmory.com

There are some other cool topics but I'll cut it here and cover them in future posts as I'll try to update more frequently moving forward.

Cheers everyone,
Samuel

Big Plans, Future Projects, & Updates
I have have begun plans for a massive expansion; read on!

The 5 year plan includes having Prince Armory at every major Renaissance Festival; Fantasy, Sci Fi, Convention; and Arts and Trade Show in the United States within 5 years.  I will be phasing people in to work with me and will seek to establish Prince Armory as the go to source for all things fantasy, sci fi, elaborate historic, and custom work in general.

I will also be coming up with new designs nonstop so I can finally start offering my works more affordably.  I'll have something for every budget and taste all at the high quality you've come to expect.   In the long run expect thousands of designs.

Additional I will be diligently working towards getting my work into big name Hollywood productions.

I actually have many plans I wish to implement in the coming years.  I have a strategy in the works to ultimately run a full scale prop, costume, and sfx studio working exclusively for the movie entities.  (think WETA)  That's many years in the future but you heard it first here.  You may think I'm dreaming at this point and have lost my mind, especially since I have never been so open before about my plans.  I have nothing to respond to that except for the actions themselves that I take toward these goals in the future.

I will still be producing the elaborate and unique one-off designs you love, and even increasing these efforts - with ever more interesting private commissions coming in, and with plans of adding a line of exclusive high end art designs and a new business identity centered around custom luxury items. Everything from leather wall art and sculptures to custom art furniture and every sort of wearable item

================
Texas Ren Fest 2011
I have sent some leftover stock items to TRF along with a few older display pieces.  Many bracers, some female stuff, and some partial suits of armor are available for sale.  I will try to make it out once this year, possibly twice.

================
DRAGONCON 2012
Next year I will be back and I've even been asked to speak about armor and leather working.  This won't be confirmed for a few months as they are still planning but if it goes through, I'll definitely be there.  Even if it doesn't I'm considering a spot in the dealer room within the next 2 years.

Just waiting on my web designer at this point.  Should be very soon.

Currently indisposed?  Not an issue; it can be any time from a few weeks from now, till forever; I plan to expand indefinitely.  I will formulate some guidelines and basic criteria but if you're interested, just email me or message me any time.

================
===INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Big Plans, Future Projects, & Updates

Journal Entry: Fri Oct 7, 2011, 12:30 AM

I have have begun plans for a massive expansion; read on!

I will still be producing the elaborate and unique designs you love, even increasing these efforts, with ever more interesting private commissions coming in, and even more-so with plans of adding a line of exclusive high end art designs and a new business identity centered around custom luxury items. Everything from leather wall art and sculptures to custom art furniture (custom dragon king sized bed anyone?  Matching dungeon set please?  How about that ye olde sports car?; need a custom air brush job with dragons ablaze, complete with custom matched tooled leather interior?  How about a elaborate wallet, fancy gentleman's cane, gem encrusted battle ready sword, top hat, luggage, kitchen knife set, and home décor theme with everything else listed above all in the same style and theme.  Give me time, and it's all imminent.

But what this does mean is that I will be phasing people in to work with me and the current mid-term goal is to be at every major Renaissance Festival; Fantasy, Sci Fi, Convention; and Arts and Trade Show in the United States within 5 years.   After that will be along the lines of world domination but first things first.

So as I begin amassing a crew and funding for stock materials, I will also be designing stock designs (for off the shelf items) nonstop so I can finally start offering my designs and products affordable.  I'll have something for every budget all at the high quality you've come to expect.  I'm talking about eventually having thousands of designs available.  All unique and made by me and my minions, I mean esteemed colleagues.

Additional I will be diligently working towards doing whatever it takes to get recognized by the film industry and start doing crafting projects for big name Hollywood productions.  I've actually got a lot of plans I wish to implement in the coming years. I have nothing to respond to that except the actions themselves that I take toward these goals in the future.

================
TRF 2011
I have put the ball in motion again by sending all of my leftover stock items to TRF along with a few older display pieces.  Many bracers, some female stuff, and some partial suits of armor are available for sale.  I will try to make it out once this year, possibly twice.

================
DRAGONCON 2011
To update on that, it was a blast.  It was great to meet many of you fine folks there.  I'm glad I had the chance.  And I'm sorry if I missed anyone else, I didn't even make it out of the Marriot.  But next year I will be back and I've even been asked to speak about armor and leather working.  This won't be confirmed for a few months as they are still planning but if it goes through, I'll definitely be there.  Even if it doesn't I'm considering a spot in the dealer room as soon as it is financially feasible.  Maybe next year, probably the next though.

================
===NEW WEBSITE COMING SOON
My website is in a sorry state; I never had time to do art for it, I did a rush hack job on the code, and never even finished write-ups and content.  Now, I could do it, and probably do it well; my first calling was as a techie (I was even voted most likely to be the next Bill Gates during Jr. High Graduation) so code and Photoshop are not foreign to me but I've been delayed time and time again every time I make up my mind to finally redo it myself. So I have actually gone ahead and hired a web designer and artist to redo my website.

Graphics are basically finished and the code isn't far behind.  Once that is ready I will be trying to fill it with as much content as I have time for and I will release it before the year is out, I promise.

Once that is done I can -finally- start advertising in earnest.  I only ever posted my work on here, that is my only source of advertising.  Recently I have been updating Facebook too.  But my website is so crumby I don't even want people to see it so I haven't advertised.

Oh, and I really will be activating it for online sales as soon as possible.  And filling it with stock.  And I will be putting things back up on eBay. But this depends on who I can get to work with me and trained up in making my products.

See you at DragonCon!

Journal Entry: Sun Aug 14, 2011, 3:21 AM

Update 9/1/11
See some of you guys tomorrow and over the next few days.  So its easier to find me, look for a big green screen, I'm being hosted by Nin Chau (awesome fellow) in his spot.  More on that here www.dragoncon.org/imagez.php
Cheers maties.

I'll be attending DragonCon with a few things on display and maybe a few little things for sale.  Look for a big photography area and the Sea Dragon Armor and I'll be roaming around from time to time.  See you there!

Keep an eye out for me:
Leather Asha'man Trench Coat by Azmal
I'll be wearing this if I can tolerate the heat.

I'll be in Atlanta before and after DCon to explore a possible career opportunity that might springboard me into the entertainment industry.  Making all these wild and varying unique items for my private clients is an awesome way to earn a living for sure but I'd kill to be on the official movie scene when the Wheel of Time movies roll around, I mean, how cool would it be to costumes, props, weapons, armor, and sets for that?

Updates coming

Journal Entry: Sat Jul 9, 2011, 2:25 AM
Well I've been away from the web scene for a while now but I'm getting back in action here and have some long due updates and pics of completed projects to upload over the coming days and weeks.

I had a ton of comments and messages piled up which I decided to mass purge for the most part so I am sorry if I missed any questions and thanks to all for the kind words and compliments.  Please ask again if it was important ; )

Thats all for now but much more to come I promise.

Some updates & news for those who care ~

- I've decided to hire a graphic/web designer to do my site because I don't think I'll ever get around to doing it myself.  So any Prince Armory admirers out there, (yes, all two or three of you,) look forward to that.

- The rest of you will probably like the Imperial Sea Dragon Armor that's on its way.  Hopefully by years end that will be ready.

- Incidentally there's another dragon armor (ocean themed) scheduled to start before long too.  Will be plenty different from the sea dragon armor though.

- Recently finished another helmet that I think many of you will find interesting.  loosely dragon themed (what can I say, dragons are popular!)

- Some other full set and partial set commissions are on the way too.

Need a new camera... or not?

Journal Entry: Sun Oct 3, 2010, 4:16 PM
Cameras.. Who knows a thing or two about them?  I've been told my camera is as good as the entry level DSLR cameras because of its sensor. But my pics are lacking, so maybe its just human error?  I really don't know much about cameras or photography. I must rely on photoshop to try and fix my terrible raw photos.

What I do know is that my photo quality has to improve.  I took a look at my gallery and its really sad that a lot of the details that I think really make some of my designs interesting just can't be seen.  All too often a client will tell me 'wow, it looks much better in person' and Seeing as how I earn a living making visually appealing items it may make sense to invest in a better camera to enhance my portfolio so I'm thinking a grand might do it.  Anyone have input or suggestions?  My Canon Powershot was around 700 but that was probably 8 years ago, I suspect it's rather dated.

I started using a tripod and lighting and that helps a lot but compared to some/any of the amazing photography out there, its really lacking.  But heck, a new camera might not even do me any good, I've never really taken the time to understand the various nuances of even the camera I have.  Its got tons of settings I've never used.  And some of the little symbols may as well be hieroglyphics haha  RTFM right?

If anyone reading this knows a thing or two about cameras and photography please enlighten me.

eBay PENNY Auction Blowout - Round 3

Journal Entry: Tue Apr 6, 2010, 12:38 PM
We have some leftover floor stock from the Texas Ren Fest and we're tossing it up on eBay all starting at $.01 with no reserves.  The first round has ended and the second round is now up and going.
Keep an eye open, I'll be listing a few items here and there instead of in batches from now on.
------> shop.ebay.com/prince.armory/m.… <------

It's all brand new, though some of it has been tried on. I wasn't inside a shop this year and there is some weathering like sun discoloration on a small few of the items but it's all in good working order and its a great chance to get a great deal on some of my standard product.  All auctions have the actual product photo.

Happy bidding.

I've also got some standard items listed on ebay and more coming.

Edit:  Worldwide shipping with USPS would probably be around $25.  UPS is auto calculating some dumb worldwide prices so ignore that.

(Past) Time to update!

Journal Entry: Fri Jan 15, 2010, 8:21 PM
Alright my web presence has been in short supply for... well... quite a while but I'll be back soon with updates and more.  I plan to get set up on the trendy social sites out there, gotta keep up with the times after all.  And to work on my website as well.  Got some past commissions to upload that I hope you all will enjoy. Not a lot though, the last few months have been slow.  But I do have some nice ones lined up for the future though so I'm looking forward to that.   Oh, and I also plan to start unveiling some metal work bit by bit as well.

I haven't spent much time on DA in a while and skipped over a lot of comments so thanks to all for those and if I've missed answering some questions, feel free to ask again or email me.

This is just a 'pre-update' journal entry; if I say I'll do it maybe I'll finally do it haha

News Feature Writeup of Me and My Craft(s)!

Journal Entry: Fri Apr 24, 2009, 3:27 AM
A member here (:iconwarpiggg:) has taken it upon herself to do a news feature writeup of several armorers here on DA and I am among the count.  She asked me some questions, I responded, and she made a really nice writeup from that.
Intro Excerpt: "Leather Armourers: a continuation... Or something, hah. This is week two of my six week leather armourer feature. Admittedly I'm a day late, but in my defence I worked yesterday... Back on topic! Last week the wonderful *Sharpener was kind enough to allow me to interview him, and now we have some fresh meat for the grinder - one Samuel Lee, of the USA. Here's a little about him!"
Continued -> news.deviantart.com/article/78…
So if any of you watchers want a little insight on some of the events that led me to my current trade or are interested in seeing a little of my past, do go check it out.

In other news, as you watchers have seen I have uploaded a big backlog of sketches and a few commissions.  Still searching for some lost pics of semi-recent commissions.  Got over 2TB on my comp so it's a big place to loose a few images.  As for commission status I'm almost caught up (I think... Every time I say that something else pops up lol) and when done, I'll be uploading a few noteworthy things.  Got a design loosely based on the assassins creed to be used as a winter coat, "dragon rider" themed armor with dragon head helmet, a set of paladin/archangle armor, and a new fantasy style hat I've had in production for a while, time to finish it up too.

So, please check out the feature and look forward to the new goodies!

Almost back....

Well, my online presence has been far from active for quite a while now.  I got a few months behind on DA stuff so I had to use the panic button (Delete all) so as not to fall further behind.  (You guys should see my unsorted email inbox... whew...)  So in short, thanks to all my new watchers, and the enduring past ones, and all the favs too.  Definitely appreciate it. As well as the journal features for some of you, and to Myana too, glad to see you're still at it.  Feel free to resubmit questions if I missed them with the purge and I'll try to get to them this time!

I'll refrain from posting the details of why exactly I'm so far behind on everything as I'm not out for a sympathy vote or anything, nothing particularly drastic anyhow; I'm sure anyone can relate to having a series of little things amass into something more than little ; )  But at any rate, I am in fact getting caught up, slowly but surely.  And with that I hope to get back on DA here and upload several of the commissions I've done since I left.  For now I do have to keep my focus on a few active commissions since they're past due, one that's really past due, but I'll be back in action soon enough and with luck I'll be able to devote some time to my website again and my personal set of Dragon Armor.  (Dreams, just dreams, it'll never happen haha!)

So that's a breif update till I can get current stuff finished and start uploading cool stuff for you guys to check out again : )

Cheers

DD!!

Awesomeness!  Thanks to Kitten-of-Woe for the DD and also a big thanks to scars-and-stripes and shadowed-light-waves too for submitting my Lion Armor

Also thanks to everyone who has faved and commented.  I do read all the comments even if I don't always reply so please assume my thanks to be implied!

Lion Armor - Complete by Azmal
Lion Armor - Compiled by Azmal
Lion Helmet and new jaw by Azmal

Without the help of my two friends Chris and George I wouldn't have been able to meet the deadline for this particular commission so they deserve some props too.

Daily Deviation Quote:
Lion Armor - Complete by *Azmal "is craftsmanship at its finest. This full set of armor is one-of-a-kind and was constructed entirely from leather and nickel-finished hardware. The outcome is spectacular, right down to the tiny details in the helmet, breast plate, and gloves." Be sure to check this out in fullview and visit this deviant's entire gallery. Thanks again all!
