Sword - Work In Progress by Azmal Sword - Work In Progress by Azmal
Here's a sword I started many months ago but still haven't finished yet.

I've since started several other projects, none finished though.

Steel: CPM 154 (Crucible)
Overall length: 36"
Method: Stock Removal (Ground from bar stock)

The pics were taken at different perspectives and rotated to fit this compiled image so if it looks 'off' thats why.

I'll be aiming for that degree of belt grinder control... someday (currently known as "The Devil with a Face Grinder"). Must burn off a lot more belts.
My congratulations!

how do you shape it? do you plasma cut it or do you use something like a band saw?

I have a bandsaw but its slow so I will normally just grind it down unless I'm trying to save a big chunk of the stock

Beautiful curves.

I wanted to point out something that occured to me the second I laid my eyes on this picture, though. The area where the blade shifts into the tang of the sword... that angle there ]]== is at 90* degrees. If the sword is ever actually meant to be swung around and to actually cut something, I would suggest making the angle less steep.. something more like 75*. Having the 90 degree angle will greatly compromise on the solidity of the structure, thus in actual use raises the risk of the blade snapping right off it's tang. :)

Oh, I imagine I will get to it sometime before the year is over. I have a few other things lined up to be completed before that too though, in the sword type stuff I mean.

What did you use to grind the piece? It just seems a little to complicated to grind the multi level areas by machine.

interesting design. Is any particular function served in it's design? In terms of cut path or balence, I mean.

Hey. I stumbled across this while surfing DA. I gotta say, this is looking really really good. I haven't seen anything else of yours yet, but this piece shows you have a very strong affinity for the medium and a lot of confidence in your skills/talents. This is a very graceful weapon reminiscent of the elvish blades from Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings films. I certainly hope it turns out as functional as it is beautiful.

Hmmm, I think we might have to talk about matching up a weapon with your armour. Especially if I can build the grips for it out of nice exotic wood (maybe snake wood if I can find any).

Snakewood is good stuff, it's pretty expensive though. I have some but not enough for a sword hilt. But I do have my sources and have quite a few types of woods on hand to choose from anyway.
