I would have went with a less spiny design for the leather armor bits to make it more flush with the helmet's design.

That helmet doesn't go with the suit, its a darth vader helm/headpiece

I'm aware of where the iconic helmet came from, I'm saying the guy wearing it would have looked better if the armor hadn't had the spines as it would have matched the helmet's smooth sides better.
