Artorias Leather Fantasy Armor Dark Souls by Azmal Artorias Leather Fantasy Armor Dark Souls by Azmal
Custom leather fantasy armor inspired by Artorias of Dark Souls

The reference material I had to work with was such that I had to come up with my own embellishments and design elements so its not an exact replica.

Amazingly well done and intricate but if I may be so bold as to ask if you'd perhaps take a commission for a custom made armor very similar to this one but possibly with or able to have a hood on?

If I wanted to let's say make a cosplay set of Iron Tarkus armor, and have no experience with smithing at all, how would I go about doing it?

Smithing is not leather working; it is metal working.
Are you looking to cosplay Tarkus with actual metal armour?

I could point you in the direction of:
armourarchive.org/
www.youtube.com/watch?v=aDSNez…

These videos should give you a basic idea of how it is done; you would have to draw your own patterns, though. Tarkus actually has relatively simple armour, with no intricate designs and simple geometry. The helmet would probably be trouble, though.

If you misused 'smithing' or I misinterpreted, you could easily make the armour using mat-foam.
I don't know of any resources specific to shaping foam, but the process should be simpler than these examples:

fc07.deviantart.net/fs70/i/201…
gamefrosting.com/wp-content/up…

The foam they used is:

and

If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

This could be my fav of your work so far!! Looks amazing altogether! Your maille is a bit chucky tho, I think it takes away from your leather work a bit. What gauge is that? bet it was a bitch to weave up!

Very nice! How did you make the knuckle plate? Is it a bunch of little pieces sewn together, or a bigger piece that has been dished and hardened?

It looks really amazing, what I wouldn't give to wear that!
Though, is there a reason you left out the blue hood, scarf, and cape? I think it would really top off the piece!

Because to do it well I would have had to custom design all the patterns, outsource those designs to a custom embroidery services, then shred about 85% of the end result and distress the rest.
Essentially it would have cost a lot more than its worth when the client can just get some blue fabric from a store and get a similar effect for next to nothing.  I just don't like offering half measures as a professional service if I can avoid it.

Ah that totally make sense! :D
I can understand why you chose not too then,
though if I could get that armor I'd get the good stuff!
All in all, it STILL looks amazing!

Nice work, AS USUAL!!! It's strange, since I was working on a helm inspired by Artorias' helm!!! ;) But my client wanted it to be different, more devil-like since he's playing half-demon and didn't wanted the stroke of hair which is a shame since it's so nice on the helm. But I will show you soon! I'm finish it tomorrow ;) It would be my first helm, so it's nothing compair to your gorgeous work!
